I just finished The Girl who Played with Fire. Wow, what a great book! The same characters are back from Dragon Tattoo – Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist and again there’s murder and intrigue, secrets and lies! I won’t divulge any more of the plot, so as not to ruin the enjoyment, but Salander’s troubled past figures prominently in the plot. This book was as entertaining and exciting to read as the first book – very enjoyable. It’s left me wanting more – more Salander and Blomkvist! More Sweden! And what the heck is this Billy’s Pan Pizza? Don’t know, but I wanna try some… Unfortunately, there’s only one more book in the series left – The Girl who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, which will be available in May. What a shame that Stieg Larsson passed away so young and before he could savor the incredible success of these novels….
Anyways, next up? Well, today I started Dubliners by James Joyce (I know…..conquering my Joyce-phobia, but from the little I’ve read so far, it seems pretty accessible.) I also started The Time Travelers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. Now at times I’ve been accused of being a bit of a literary snob by certain members of my family (starts with an L. can you guess??) Perhaps this stems from my refusal to read a) anything Harry Potter or b) anything with the word Twilight in it. (I certainly do not begrudge fans of these books their enjoyment – everyone has different tastes and that’s cool. They’re just not my cup of tea. ) So while I initially thought this bestselling book about a time traveling librarian and the love of his life sounded tres cheesy, I’ve heard good things about it, and I’m going to give it a chance. And if I like it, then maybe someday soon I’ll give one of those Twilight books a try.*
*This will never happen.
